What's involved with a Facelift/Necklift?
A Facelift involves making small hidden incisions behind and around the ears to adjust the tightness of the facial soft tissues and remove excess skin and wrinkles in the face. It also involves smoothing the nasolabial folds around the mouth, lifting the jowls around the lower cheeks, and improving the youthfulness of the face. The necklift is often combined with a facelift to remove the wrinkles and extra skin of the neck, while also tightening the muscle to avoid the 'turkey neck' appearance from platysmal bands. Patients are often hesitant to consider a face or necklift, because they picture the "windswept" look, with an exaggerated tight face and no ability to make facial expressions. This appearance however could not be farther from the truth. The goal with a facelift/necklift is to improve the overall appearance of the face, remove the extra skin and wrinkles, but provide a very natural look with hidden scars so that others cannot quite tell that you have had a procedure done.
Choosing to have a facelift and/or necklift is a very individualized decision. Patients may choose to have these procedures done because of natural aging with loose skin, extra wrinkles, and descent and deflation of the facial soft tissues over time. Some people may have lost volume in the face due to weight loss. A face and neck lift can improve your self-esteem and make you feel more comfortable and confident with your appearance. Dr. Sharma will sit down with you to discuss your goals for the surgery and the look you are hoping to achieve. Most patients are interested in a natural appearance since the face is so visible, and we strive to get you the look that you deserve.
Incisions are typically placed in the scalp and around the ear to make them as minimally visible as possible. You may choose to have the necklift combined with the facelift to ensure that the youthfulness of the face matches the neck. Dr. Sharma will discuss the pros and cons of each of the procedures with you to determine what is best for your individual needs.

Am I a Good Candidate?
Good candidates for this procedure are men and women who:
- are self-conscious about the appearance of their face
- wish to re-establish the natural volume of the face that has descended and deflated over time
- remove many of the creases, wrinkles, jowls, and excess skin of the face and neck
- want to achieve a natural more youthful appearance of the face and neck
- are physically healthy to undergo surgery and have realistic expectations
How do I choose to have facelift versus non-surgical injectables?
There are a variety of factors that go into making this important decision. Dr. Sharma will discuss all of your options with you. Injectables such as filler and Botox can help to reduce some wrinkles in certain specific areas, to provide a more subtle and reversible improvement. The injectables will not address the excess skin, however. Some factors that play an important role in determining which way to go are:
- the degree of excess skin, and wrinkles of the face
- what other procedures or injectables have been done in the past, if any
- your overall goals and expectations
- the amount of improvement you are looking for
- other factors such at procedure downtime, reversibility, recovery, and cost
